1. The Second Annual Globaloria Leadership Colloquium at the WV Governor's Mansion

On October 19th, 2009 the WV First Lady Gayle Manchin hosted the Globaloria Leadership Colloquium for Principals and Superintendents. Speakers included First Lady Gayle Manchin, State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Paine, and President of Verizon WV, B. Keith Fulton. "Globaloria is a powerful tool for learning, to actively engage our kids in their world," said Dr. Paine, adding "we at the Department of Education stand ready to help in any way we can for the sake of our kids." World Wide Workshop President Idit Harel Caperton, Director of Programs and Executive Producer Shannon Sullivan and WV State Director David Lowenstein also expounded upon the program's long-term vision and the critical role of WV education leaders in using Globaloria to catalyze lasting educational transformation.

2. Abby Taylor Visits Globaloria Civics Track Classrooms to Discuss the New Initiative Sponsored by the Knight Foundation

Globaloria-WV students participating in the new Globaloria Civics Track (GCT), sponsored by the Knight Foundation welcomed special guest Abby Taylor (Executive Director of Sandra Day O'Connor's Our Courts) into their classrooms on October 19th and 20th. Students seized the opportunity to present their civics game ideas and learn from her expert guidance on civic issues. Abby, along with WV State Director David Lowenstein and Assistant Programs Coordinator Rachel Rosenfelt, encouraged GCT students to register for the 1st Annual Globaloria Civics Game Competition, and helped them imagine and develop competitive educational civics games. "The GCT teachers and students are enthusiastically taking on this ambitious project of fusing essential civic content with game creation" said Abby, "I am very excited to see the results of our game design competition in June!"

3. Idit Harel Caperton Honored with Creative Cone Award

On October 21st, World Wide Workshop President Idit Harel Caperton was honored at the 2009 Create West Virginia Conference with a Creative Cone Award for her vision and progressive work in transforming education across the state with Globaloria. The Create WV Annual Conference is a statewide celebration of creative community-building designed to spark economic growth and promote West Virginia as a "great state to create." "It is an honor to be recognized for the advanced vision Globaloria brings to West Virginia and its school system," said Idit. "Globaloria shows how new models of public education can better prepare students for the 21st-century jobs where most positions are creative positions."
